Summary:
The VDI Desktop Engineer is responsible for the deployment, user experience, and administration of the Virtual Desktop Environment.
This role requires a desktop engineer with strong Windows desktop operating experience in a virtual environment.
You'll work closely with VDI Systems Infrastructure Engineer as well as both IT Operations and engineering departments to evolve the environment and VDI desktop standards while implementing security best practices.

Responsibilities:
VDI Administration and Support:
Manage and maintain the VMWare Horizon virtual desktop environment, including provisioning, patching, and troubleshooting.
Execute desktop image deployment procedures, including effective use of App Volumes and other supporting technologies.
Work with the IT Operations team to ensure that virtual desktops are secure, reliable, and scalable.
Coordinate security and bug patching of images leveraging the QA environment.
Development and maintenance of VDI gold images.
Provisioning and administration of desktop pools.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to virtual desktops, applications, user profiles, and connectivity.
Develop and enforce VDI policies, security measures, and access controls.
Provide technical support and guidance to end-users, including incident resolution and problem management.
Perform testing of regular backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedure to ensure data integrity and availability.
Performance Optimization and Tuning:
Conduct performance tuning activities of the desktop environment to optimize resource utilization and enhance user experience.
Monitor and analyze VDI metrics and usage patterns to proactively identify areas for improvement.
Recommend and implement enhancements to improve scalability, reliability, and performance.
Operations:
Monitor and maintain the overall health and performance of the VDI environment.
Manage and maintain the VMWare Horizon virtual desktop environment, including provisioning, patching, and troubleshooting.
Ability to configure and manage Active Directory, group policies, and general Windows administration.
Work with the IT Operations team to ensure that virtual desktops are secure, reliable, and scalable.
Testing of software deployments, updates, and performance impacts.
Setup the automation of virtual desktop and system profile refreshes.
Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours escalation.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs to educate end-users and IT staff on VDI best practices.
Stay up to date with the latest VDI technologies, industry trends, and emerging solutions.
Job
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
4 to 6 years working within the enterprise desktop field.
4 to 6 years of hands-on experience with VMWare Horizon.
4 to 6 years supporting, deploying, and maintaining Windows 10 and above.
3 to 5 years experience administering Active Directory.
Knowledge of enterprise software distribution/management systems.
Scripting experience with tools such as PowerShell, Python, or CLI are a plus.
Experience with networking concepts, protocols, and security principles related to VDI.
Customer service skills, with an eye for detail and user experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and end-users.
Analytical and problem solving skills.
Relevant certifications, such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are a plus.
